It’s the last month of the year and we are making it count! It’s only the 4th and we have been super busy. Now it’s appropriate for me to have a penguin coffee mug and I’m taking advantage of it.
Thursday was the first and while we still worked like normal we filled in for a volleyball league at 7:05pm. We won the first two games and lost the third. Jeremy hurt his leg so we came home to doctor him up and go to bed for Friday’s Maplewood Holiday Walk.
At about 5:30pm our friends came to pick us up and take us to Maplewood on Friday. We started with the carriage rides because if you wait too long you will just be standing in the line all night instead of doing the other fun things. Bekah enjoyed he short wait on her dad’s shoulders stealing his hat.
A passer-by even volunteered to take a picture of our group. The kids were more into the horses than the pictures.
We only waited about ten minutes and we got to climb up and enjoy a ride by a giant horse named Tank. It was Jeremy’s first time on a horse and carriage.
We decided to grab dinner but the wait was about 30 minutes long so we put our name in at the restaurant and went walking up and down the strip of stores to grab free goodies like cocoa at Penzey’s, see santa and have a cookie at a local liquor and oil store.
When it was time for our table to open up we went to the restaurant and grabbed some tables. I got to enjoy the first part of our dinner with Hezekiah, he’s not a ham or anything as you can tell.
Jeremy and I ordered a drink to split. It was called Vampiro.
We waited to order…and waited…and waited. It got to the point that the kids went for happy meals and movies in the car while we again, kept waiting.
As we looked up reviews we found that the place was known for long waits and food poisoning and that left us very uneasy and itching to leave. We waited for almost two hours to order and eat so we decided that if food didn’t arrive by 8:30pm we would tell them we were no longer interested and leave. It became a game. Unfortunately the food came 4 minutes before that cut off time so we all looked at each other wearily and started to eat.
Though no one got food poisoning that I know of, we will not be returning. It was a huge disappointment to such a good evening out with friends. That will teach us to eat something other than pizza together!
Yesterday Jeremy and I got up by 7:30am and got ready for a volleyball tournament we were asked to play in on Monday night. We ran to Krispie Kreme to grab donuts for sharing and headed up to the gym. We were put on the same team and ended up with our friend Dan and two other people we play with regularly.
It really was a fun day, we ended up going 11-1 and winning first place in the tournament which means we get to play for free in February when it comes around again.
After we got home from the tournament at about 3:30pm we were still pumped up from the day and not ready to end it so we went to the mall to try and find Jeremy new volleyball shoes. We found some he liked but ended up with candles instead from Bath and Body Works. The were running a one day sale making them $8.50 ea. a $14 savings.
We decided it was time to go home and make dinner because we had yet to have a real meal all day and we were getting hungry. We took turns working on dinner and taking showers and then migrated downstairs to watch The BFG. I loved this book growing up and couldn’t wait to see it. I loved it.
We rented it for three days so it may get watched again before then.
Today we got up slowly, went to get coffee and dropped the Christmas cards off in the postbox. We ended up running to Mema’s to wish her a happy birthday and bring her the card and gifts we got her. She surprised us with a picture frame that fits perfectly in our dining room. Once we have a picture in it I’ll share it.
Now since it is raining we are in for the day. Turkey is in the oven because it was only .99 cents a pound so we are making it and some Thanksgiving sides to go with it that we didn’t have on the actual holiday. I am about to make a pumpkin pie and then I am hunkering down on Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix because Crystal is about to pass me up on reading these.
